Lead Conference Organizer
Nupur Huria (she/her)
Nupur Huria is a pre-medical junior at Michigan State University double majoring in human biology and psychology. She passionately advocates for and leads several initiatives toward achieving gender-based health equity at and beyond Michigan State University. Through her work, she aims to raise awareness for and normalize discussion around stigmatized topics, disseminate important information, and empower women to prioritize their health and well-being.

Harsna Chahal (she/her)
Harsna Chahal is a graduate student at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, acquiring her Master of Public Health, and is starting medical school in the Fall of 2024. As a student leader, Harsna strives to increase healthcare accessibility and education by advocating for inclusive health policies through the local, state, and federal government. On top of this, help create initiatives to ensure equitable healthcare access among students. Currently, she is interning for Women*s Student Services to enhance student success and retention by advocating for more reproductive and sexual health resources and information.

Khushi Chhabra (she/her)
Khushi Chhabra is a passionate third-year pre-medical student pursuing a degree in Human Biology with concentration in global public health and epidemiology. As a firm advocate for women's health, she strives to promote menstrual equity and empower all women. Khushi hopes to leverage her dedication to community service and sexual health advocacy in order to create a positive change. She is currently engaged in research examining how external factors like sugar intake may influence breast cancer pathogenesis in women. Her goal is to utilize evidence-based findings to support women's health and reduce disparities.

Julia Walters (she/her)
Julia Walters is a first-year law student at Michigan State University. Julia has a strong background in public policy having spent time working in the Michigan State Legislature as well as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Julia has a passionate and vested interest in reproductive justice, particularly enhancing access to abortion care. Julia has conducted research on the Hyde Amendment and more recently explored student access to reproductive healthcare on college campuses. In 2023, she co-founded ELFREEEC, a grassroots organization that provides community education on emergency contraceptives and distributes Free Plan B® to students and community members. She currently serves on the City of East Lansing’s Human Rights Commission as Vice Chair. Julia holds a B.A. from Michigan State University in Social Relations & Policy and Women’s & Gender Studies.

Mackenzie Lovell (she/her)
Mackenzie Lovell is a fourth-year student at Michigan State University studying Comparative Cultures and Politics, Social Relations and Policy, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Throughout her academic career, Lovell has committed herself to reproductive justice both within her studies and in her advocacy work. Lovell has been a part of Pad the Mitten (President) and Planned Parenthood Generation Action (Secretary) since her first year at MSU. She volunteers for several sexual assault awareness organizations and is involved in a multitude of advocacy efforts that fight for the right and equitable access to abortion both nationally and statewide, access to menstrual products for all menstruators, access to sexual health products like contraceptives, and for the reform of sexual education as a whole to be medically accurate and intersectional.

Maren Nicolaysen (she/her)
Maren is a Senior in International Relations and Economics at MSU. Part of MSU Women*s Council, HEAL, and the MSU CORES & COPS Coalition, she works with feminist and advocacy organizations in Wyoming, Michigan, and Washington DC to build communities committed to educating, advocating for, and supporting all women* and marginalized genders. Maren wants to help her peers build leadership skills to advance their empowerment. Everyone should be able to advocate for themselves as well as others.

(Ashleigh Lowe (she/they)
Ashleigh is a recent graduate of Michigan State University. For the past two years, they were the co-chair of the WILD conference where they worked to increase education surrounding gender equity on campus. Ashleigh joined the HEAL planning committee to help increase knowledge surrounding sexual health and well-being on campus.

Taylor Murdick (she/they)
Taylor is a 2nd year majoring in psychology and sociology and minoring in women*s and gender studies and LGBTQ and sexuality studies at MSU. As a member of Women*s Council, intern at Women*s Student Services, POE Peer Educator, and volunteer at MSU Safe Place, she is passionate about gender equity and advocacy for bodily autonomy. Taylor strives to bring awareness to the harmful gender stereotypes and overall misconceptions that surround sexual health and well-being as a whole.

Prerna Chahal (she/her)
Prerna is currently a senior majoring in Genomics and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Bioethics. She is passionate about improving sexual assault prevention education and support within our campus. Therefore, she spends time volunteering for the Sexual Assault and Crisis Intervention program at MSU. In order to educate our student body on sexual assault prevention, she is also a POE peer educator. Moreover, she is part of the Student Voices for Prevention Initiatives council, where she assist in improving the curriculum and programs for sexual assault prevention initiatives. Lastly, she is dedicated to improving the public health of our community and serve as president of the Spartan Association for Public Health (SAPH).

Shambvi Ohja (she/her)
Shambhvi is a 3rd year Neuroscience and Human Bio student with a minor in Bioethics. Along with being a premed student, she strives to become an active participant in public health which includes being an advocate for sexual/reproductive health. As the vice president of the Spartan Association of Public Heath, her organization works to educate and actively participate in the health of our community. As a Medical Assistant, it her job to assist in providing care in reproductive and sexual health to many of the patients. She is also a volunteer crisis advocate for the Sexual Assault and Crisis Intervention (SACI) at MSU.

Jessamy Brosnan (she/her)
Jessamy Brosnan is a Community Liaison with the Michigan State University Department of Police & Public Safety. Jessamy has a diverse background in Community Engagement, Human Resources, Communications, and Domestic and Relationship Sexual Assault and Violence. Holding a degree in Human Services, Jessamy has spent the past 30 years dedicated to empowering individuals and families through her career, volunteer work, and non-profit charitable events. Jessamy passionately advocates access to resources and services for all women to support their journey of empowerment, free from the tyranny of any barriers including abuse and violence. Every woman has the right to realize their unique potential through a shared, inclusive community fostering safety, acceptance, support, and sustainability.

Trinity Almaraj (she/her)
Trinity is a first-year majoring in Human Biology and minoring in Bioethics. She is interested in advocating and bringing awareness to sexual health, health disparities, and menstrual equity. Through her involvement in Mission Menstruation, Trinity hopes to help decrease the stigmatization of sexual health and increase the accessibility of period products at Michigan State University. With her interest in osteopathic medicine, Trinity hopes to continue her mission through her career and future.

Brandon Canty (he/him)
Brandon Canty is a pre-health junior at Michigan State University majoring in Kinesiology. He is currently involved in Phi Epsilon Kappa and the Student Health Alliance Council (SHAC). With his involvement in SHAC, he is able to provide a voice for students on campus to solve current health issues such as sexual health and others. By joining HEAL, Brandon hopes to provide more knowledge and resources on sexual health.

Wasenka Hewage (she/her)
Wasenka is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Psychology which she uses in her passion for furthering mental health awareness in the community. Her greatest passion is providing guidance and support to people who have been through traumatic and stressful experiences. She has many years of experience working in the mental health field with diverse groups of people, utilizing skills such as motivational interviewing and verbal de-escalation. She continues to be an advocate for mental health issues and is excited to bring her experience and skills to the HEAL Conference.
